This month's blog topic was, a shallow depth of field. This is one of my favorite ways to shoot. I love using a shallow DOF to isolate my subject and minimize focus on distracting background elements. My favorite lens to use for this is my 85mm 1.4g. Almost all of the images below were shot with that lens wide open..and one image with my 35 1.4, and one with my 50 1.4 (also shot at 1.4 for both). I had a very busy month and didn't get out to shoot new images..so I pulled up a few old ones, except for the pigtail shot below which I did take this month! I like this one as I love using shallow DOF to focus on little details like this, Avery's pigtails are so sweet and I want to remember just how they look at this age.
For another post on shallow DOF, check out my photographer friend Deirdre's blog post here:

Beautiful images! I love them all!
ReplyDeleteWoow, love them all, I cannot pick my favorite!
ReplyDeleteThese are beautiful! I am super jealous of your focus so wide open! My photos never seem to look like that!
ReplyDeleteBlown away by these---just so lovely! Please tell me #5 is blown up and framed in your home---what I love most is that while SDOF is essential to these shots, it doesn't steal the show---the beautiful faces captures the viewers' attention, not the blur.
